This is Windows 3.1x installed in VirtualBox using the default installation settings. The sound driver has been installed, and the sounds are enabled. After updating VirtualBox, clicking the mouse no longer crashes the OS, so I was able to play a casual game of Minesweeper. I highly recommend you watch this in high quality: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxtCtDTPusw&fmt=18

  • no internets !!??

  • @ockap00 I'm still trying to find the time to figure out how to do that.

  • I remembered that Minesweeper had a sound on Windows 3.1. I don't see why there's no sound on this one though?

  • @YTPgirlaph I couldn''t find an option for it in Win3.1. I know Vista and 7 have it, though.

  • @MadDawg010 Virtualbox is much way better than DOSbox!!

  • Cool video but once Win 3.1 was loaded, I wish it would have zoomed just inside the VM to look like it was the real thing.

  • OMG! Roblox totally STOLE that startup sound from Microsoft! It's the sound that plays when you get a new badge! LMAO!

  • LOL!! 0:30

  • @YTPgirlaph It wasn't really an "OEM edition" or anything... at the core it was plain Windows 3.1 and then PB just installed their bundled software on top, put it on a restore CD, and called it a day. I want to look into this further though, since IIRC there isn't even an option in vanilla 3.1 to add Minesweeper sounds. So PB must have added the feature, or used a modified version of Minesweeper that allowed it. I am going to check it out when I finally repair my PB system.

  • @MrKsoft You know, I think I had a same thing that you got since I remembered having the Packard Bell logo on the BIOS when I turned the computer on. And I didn't even know that I had an Windows 3.1 OEM feature version. =P

  • @YTPgirlaph I think this was an OEM feature... I had a Packard Bell 486DX2 back in the day and Minesweeper has sounds on it. However, a plain install of Windows 3.1 doesn't.
