This lion sculpture was inspired by heraldry. Some of my sculptures are available at patrickdoyle.etsy.com. The lion is made from bent wire. The base is made from pine, cut into the shape of a shield, stained, and polyurethaned. The lion is attached to the base with craft wire. The base is signed (underneath, with a wood burner) with "PD MMX" (my initials and the year in roman numerals).

Passant, which means "walking," is one of the many "attitudes" in which lions are depicted on a coat of arms. A lion passant has a raised right front paw and the other three paws on the ground, with its head facing left.

An example of the lion passant used in a coat of arms is the national coat of arms of Denmark.

Sculpture dimensions: 11" wide x 6.5" high x 5" deep.

Music: Elgar - March of the Mogul Emperors, from Op. 66 "The Crown of India." Performed by U.S. Marine Band. Available at http://www.musopen.com/music.php?type=piece&id=456
