Pat's solo version of 'Last Train Home' from 'Speaking of Now - Live' Concert in Japan. The first time, I heard this solo version on 'One Quiet Night', I was like 'wow, that's neat', no drums, no percussion, no voice, no Lyle' Grand Steinway. Just one Guitar, one setting. And since then, I've not looked back although time and again, I do listen to the original from 'Still Life(Talking)'. But the solo studio version from 'One Quiet Night' and this one live are now part of my daily routine like The Lord's Prayer :)

  • what is the tuning he uses here?

  • @soybennie, the tuning used is A D G C E A. Line quoted from Pat' 'One Quiet Night' CD liner notes. Hope that helps :)

  • @soybennie A regular guitar is really going to struggle to make this possible. He's using a baritone and the tuning is essentially standard down a 5th. Good luck.

  • I Love you Pat, your music has brought me so much joy, peace, and healing over decades.

  • My favorite jazz guitarist. One hears traces of influence in Pat's playing but in total it is overwhelmingly Pat Metheny. Refreshing and challenging while beautiful.

  • A 'complete' guitarist. I.e. - one who provides full accompaniment to himself.

His bass lines alone prove this.

  • @russgriswald A regular guitar will laugh at the moron attempting to make this possible..

  • its great when you higher your musical awareness and experience the delights that this gentleman shares with us , most grateful , thanks Mr Metheny

  • 3 people were obviously born without ears.

  • @soybennie It's on a baritone guitar and the relationship of intervals is the same as standard tuning. So it just sounds down a fifth. There is a TAB book of Metheny's One Quiet Night

  • @Someone5287 It's a perfect-fifth lower than a standard guitar's EADGBE tuning, not a fifth lower than standard baritone EADGBE--if that's what you were asking. I'm not quite sure what exactly your question is. It's ADGCEA, which is standard baritone tuning, which is not quite an octave lower, just a perfect-fifth.
