Five Points: 5 converging streets built on a landfill over a swamp provided affordable NYC housing. Such crowded and mixed conditions provided assistance in the form of community groups, such as the African Society for Mutual Relief, but also created tension, as seen through several days of riots centered around an African American church in 1834. This is the 5th location in this New-York Historical Society tour.
