The two girls walked, not as if they were famous, but almost as if they were ruling the world. They didn't mean to, and they were only sure it made them seem pretentious and full of their own beauty, but a part of them didn't care. If Miley and Demi weren't famous, the way they were walking wouldn't matter. They'd just look like two best friends trying to get by. But their smiles told a different story, as their teeth shot daggers to the other side of the dining hall wall.
Nick looked up, slowly noticing how quiet the room had grown to be. He was never one for drama and attention so he looked back down to his phone, silently praying for a flash of light from it's screen to signal a new text message, or better yet, a phone call.
"Hey party people" Miley walked over, smiling down at the table.
"Miley!" Anna Maria and Alyson were already standing at the head of the table and hugging Miley. Miley enveloped them both, catching eyes with Nick as she rested her head casually over Alyson's shoulder. He just looked up at her, trying to play it off as if she wasn't everything he had wanted right then and there. She returned the favor and then stood making small talk and catching up with all of the girls she had at one point in time seen everyday.
Eventually she was one of them, sitting at their table. She too, became part of the gallery, a place where everyone in the room could glance over and note on the various actions and words spilling out of the area. Still, they didn't waver. With Miley at the table, everyone had gained all of their previously lost energy back and were already laughing and commenting on moments passed.
"Whoa-oh!" Joe proclaimed sarcastically. "I didn't kiss her, let's get this one straight! She kissed me!"
"Okay, well either way, it was funny-"
"I'm sorry I missed it" Miley remarked, holding her stomach as she leaned back in her chair. She let her head fall, knowing it wouldn't hit metal but instead Nick's arm that rested there to catch it. He was always there to catch her when she needed it. She turned to him and smiled, the two just dwelling in the moment at hand. Nick was so tempted to reach over and pull her near, to push a strand of her hair out of her eays, and to kiss those beautiful lips. But he didn't. Nick tapped out.
Just because Miley understood didn't mean that it hurt any less. She still felt a ping to the heart every time reality set in and they were forced to become lost in it. But then she'd remind herself of everything that she had decided and how those decisions had brought her to these moments that made her sad. She wasn't sad though. She could never be sad being this close to Nick.
