Something different for today: a demo of one of the amp sims that come standard with Garageband 09

While I love my AMT pedals (Fatal Tube and California Sound) they don't really do the edgy, EVH-ish, 80s hair metally-sort of tones particularly - at least I haven't found them. I decided to look through the (free) Marshall-y amp sims I have, and started with the Garageband guitar amp. I was rather pleasantly surprised with the results 8)

... and yes this was also an excuse to noodle shamelessly ;-)

  • @jacktheguitarman that seems odd. I just create a new track, choosing "guitar", choose the preset, set the track monitor on (and feedback protection off, generally), and hit record. I've never noticed a problem setting it up to play in real time.

  • @ChristiaanBerghuis I've actually gone back to flatpicks. I used a thumbpick for a while after seeing videos of the amazing Scotty Anderson (I highly recommend checking him out)

  • I hear the strings more than anything else.

  • @87sherwood There is a lot of string noise, true. It's hard to get enough volume to overpower the string noise but not so much that it's impossible to hear me talk

... yet another reason I shouldn't talk in my videos ;-)

  • Cool! Which thumb pick is this? did you file the pick?

  • @0Orion I actually don't know the brand of the thumbpick. It is indeed filed down (well, cut and sanded) - a la Scotty Anderson
