http://www.redlettermedia.com - Finally it's here! The truly epic review/critique/analysis/film making educational video of the 1999 film "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" There was so much to discuss with this film it had to be long so please don't complain. If you think it's too long then don't watch it. In this opening segment I discuss the major flaw of The Phantom Menace which is the characters and the lack of connection with the audience.

  • Instead of showing Episode 1 in 3D, I think they should just show this review in 3D.

  • No, you fool, the point was that no one in the production CHALLENGED Lucas, as opposed to what happened on the set of ANH - and so far, nothing you've said has debunked that, even though you announced you would.

THIS REVIEW shows Ben Burtt criticizing the ending. But it's along with Lucas.

And no, jumping on the bandwagon when your boss wants to improve something, isn't "the same thing" as telling him it sucks when he thinks otherwise.

So what now, is there gonna be a decent example or not?

  • @twooffour It would help if there was a work of literature/cinema/interactive storytelling that isnt cliche but worked while still being different. I think that if it would have made more sense to make more prequel movies to solve every single question and at the same time make a shitload of money.

By the way, who in the fuck is marking you as spam?

  • @twooffour the "parody" excuse was after or before he released it? because Tommy Wasou pulled the "Dont you know? it doesnt suck because it was a parody all along", the makers of Duke Nukem Forever also did this and (i suspect she would eventually) Stephenie Meyer.

Anyway, you said that Lucas fails at the "decent blockbuster scriptwriting" but is the Prequels (or Star Wars series in general) a blockbuster movie type?? I am kinda interested to know because i assume that

  • @SoKoLDS So how old are you then?

  • @RobinTaylorJenkins go to sleep, TROLL

  • @superhuman295 I agree. The prequals are a little goofy too.

  • It would be so great if the rerelease of phantom menace could have another review. These are great!

  • @RobinTaylorJenkins yeah trolling is fun

  • He does a good job reviewing it I found him really funny

  • PREQUELS ROCK FUCK THE HATERS!

  • One of the character describers is from Half-in-the-Bag.

  • @PanosKates95 WHAT? Can you please type that clearly, George Lucas?

  • @sethorlando Enjoyment and entertainment doesn't involve looking at a pretty shiney ship and all the pretty CGI on screen. No movies are perfect, not even the original Star Wars movies, but the prequals SUCK. No substance, so characters, convoluted plot, and just a bunch of crappy effetcs. That's not what anybody who loves movies would call "entertainment", except the brainless general audience. And for what they are is unacceptable. Here's some advice: Leave your brain on always

  • you suck you asshole

  • @EmperorOfLols

"if it was so easy to understand then everyone and their mother could be doing it right now but it wasnt."

    What "it"?

If you mean decent blockbuster scriptwriting, the point is that Lucas doesn't even manage the BASICS.

"that are less than stellar like "Eating Frenzy" and the people hate those"

Feeding Frenzy was a schlock parody, like everything RLM do - if some people don't "understand" this obvious fact, they're simply dumb.

  • @twooffour That is why i said earlier that if it was so easy to understand then everyone and their mother could be doing it right now but it wasnt. Hell, even the RLM guy made some home video movies that are less than stellar like "Eating Frenzy" and the people hate those, they dont understand it apparently. Besides, once again i want to know what is the point of following a standard if people gonna call "cliche" to everything you do because........i dont know, it was done before?

  • Boycott the 3-D releases.

  • i admit these movies are terrible .. but its these movies that made me fall in love with star wars

  • @EmperorOfLols

    Look up "hyperbole", smartasss.

And yes, he does questionable things as a character aswell. The fact he's a Jedi is only a cherry on top.

"where to find this "standard" of filmaking instructions (specially for theatrical plays)"

Jesus Christ... watch a lot of movies, analyze what works and why, and there you've got your "standard".

The way RLM brought it up, they obviously understand it themselves rather than quoting from some webpage.

  • @twooffour Besides, i kinda want to do my own RLM stile of analizis so i need to know where to find this "standard" of filmaking instructions (specially for theatrical plays)

  • @skip8619 part2: Why him insist on saying that there is NO character on Qui-Gon?? Just because he is the protagonist and therefore his questionable actions dont make sense for a protagonist?? i could say that the questionable thing comes from the fact that the Jedi Council still let him be on touch with them. He does wrong things for a JEDI and may have worked best as a rouge jedi that people believes he is a Sith but he does the wrong things for the right reasons

  • @skip8619 Ray Carney once said this about a movie: "an all-American triumph of style over substance." and he refereed to Citizen Kane. A movie that has been declared "The Best of All Times" .....and that flopped at the box office. Apparently, your "average people" dont know shit about anything (not even in 1941)

Fuck average people, those people make movies like "Disaster Movie" to be box office success. However, the plot of TPM sucks, no doubt of that, the point is why does RLM ......

  • @Agahnim18 stay here for a while so you can read what i want to write to slip8619, its kinda important to know if this film happens to have misplaced characters in a horribly written plot and that could have been saved under other circunstances. If RLM could at least tell us what characters are similar to Qui Gon in another media to compare why works in another plot then it could help. RLM should have said that QuiGon does questionable things for a JEDI, not for a protagonist stand..

  • @twooffour Yes
