Prelude - Manuel Maria Ponce

This Prelude is taken from Ponce's suite in A minor. The suite was written to sound like the music of Sylvius Leopold Weiss; a famous German lutenist from the 17th century. Originally written for Andres Segovia in the early 1900's, Segovia asked Ponce write works for the guitar in the style of other famous composers of previous eras. This was done to fill his concert programs with works from different periods, or in this case to make it sound like he had works from many different periods. Segovia would actually list them on his programs as by other composers.
