  • Thumbs up if british people jumped to attention when the National Anthem came on

  • Nothing more comforting or reassuring than BBC Radio 4/World Service, one of the little things that make me smile about the BBC, those traditions they refuse to let go of.

  • This royal throne of kings, this sceptered isle,This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,

This other Eden, demi-paradise, This fortress built by Nature for herself

Against infection and the hand of war, This happy breed of men, this little world,

This precious stone set in the silver sea, Which serves it in the office of a wall

Or as a moat defensive to a house, Against the envy of less happier lands,—

This blessed plot.. this earth,...this realm...........this England!!!

  • Great video! Has all the atmosphere of being at sea and listening to the shipping forecast but why no seagulls? Great!! Well done!!!

  • @AngloAm

That is one of sweetest things I have ever seen written down, it's a beautiful bit of imagery :-)

  • @Trek001 Sailing Away makes me feel much more proud to be British than God Save the Queen does. Instead of a national anthem, we should just hum Sailing Away and then read the shipping forecast in unison at international sporting events.

  • @MrAggtee True... very true indeed.

  • @Trek001 No... that would be the Radio 4 Morning Theme that "we" used to Jump to attention to .... since they stop broadcasting that the whole country has gone to the dogs....

  • I always think of some poor sailor tossed about in the dark on the sea, hearing the forecast and knowing that good skies or worse weather were coming his way, and then the National Anthem knowing that he couldn't, after all, be far from England's safe shores. And his family worried about him out there in the heaving blackness, knowing that just a little of their lives was being sent out over the vast and stormy spaces to to call him home.

  • Crap, it can still bring a tear to my eye...may it never end.
