this was my first croredy and it was the most amazing experience I have ever had, roll on 2008. I can't recall ever being moved to tears at the end of a set ever before as I was after fairports fantastic one. following on from previous comments, I did not see the chairs as a problem but as it was my first time perhaps I was looking at it differently.

I love the idea of musical chairs... when the music stops everyone moves round!! That would get everyone socialising too, but realistically in Britain 'you sit on my chair and you've had it' would probably be more likely, unfortunately.

A sensible approach without actual'chair police' would be best. But people have got to realise that its anti-social behavior, esp when people cart them in then wander off all day leaving the seat! They stop people socialising too. I think any empty chair next year can be sat in by anyone ! like musical chairs !

Yes, if they only allowed seata and tents in the top half that would make a big difference - but can you imagine 'policing' it? It might just create a lot of (un-Cropredy) bad feeling. But I'd support you if you started a campaign...

the little tents for children , and even the seats would not be a problem in moderation , and if people used them in the top of the field , say the top quarter. Also a bit of seat sharing may be good, I noticed that at anyone time half the seats were EMPTY! and sometimes whole rows of seats were empty! So if 6 people took 3 chairs ?

Hi - I'm on your side really as I agree - the chair brigade really make it clear we're in a different era of middle-aged comfort-seekers. However my husband wouldn't come to Croppers at all if he had to sit on a blanket so I've given in... Do you think the little tents for kids should be allowed? I see the point of them, but think that they would be a problem if everyone went back down to ground level.

I would hate for croppers goers to row, however,at the gate when i handed in my suggestion form they told me the biggest number of complaints was about the chairs ! I am not a youngster myself, Ive been to 21 cropredys and am in my mid 40s, also I have been arthritic since the age of 19 , but have never taken a folding chair in. I think the chair problem is a genuine one and needs some action. i hope that is taken in the spirit of cropredy as a friendly point.
My first Croppers too and looking forward to 2008. Can't imagine standing all day and all night though! Surely people on blankets are more of a problem than people in chairs? They'd get stepped on for a start! I'll be taking my chair next year! I can't do hours and hours standing or sat on the hard ground for that matter.

The early days of Cropredy saw everyone bring in a blanket as 'territory' and people sat or lay down (no one is suggesting standing all day!) It meant that everyone had a good view and it was easier to walk around as you just stepped between blankets. Noddyguevara has a point that now the chairs dominate everywhere even near the front so if you want to be at ground level you're not likely to see much. I see both points of view, and chairs certainly are comfy!
