Its end February and the sun is hot. Evaporation loss is high especially in the afternoon and grass guzzles water. This sprinkler is on in the middle of the afternoon spraying water even on the side walk just to keep grass green. There is a water shortage in Bangalore and water tankers ply everywhere. Is this water really necessary for grass to grow? Can we not design better landscapes in tune with nature? Will we continue to want green deserts for our warped aesthetics? Can we show better alternatives and quickly which satisfy the green requirements of a city?
Is the city caught in its garden city trap? What is the notion of a garden or a park? How should it blend with the ecological resource availability and enhance bio-diversity?
