I am a Chamorro native from Saipan. There is a story of one Japanese man who helped his wife and kids jump from one of the cliffs. Then, as he was about to jump himself, the Americans captured him. When the man realized that the Americans were not the monsters that they thought they were, the man was devastated as he had lost his entire family because of that rumor.
