@Zeebra900 very interesting. The owners claim the dog hates the song and that he gets upset about it. But, what if the dog is not upset, but excited? It's true. Maybe the dog has witnessed what birthday parties are like and remembers the happy birthday song and when he hears the song he thinks, just like you said "it's my birthday!" and then he goes outside because that's where he knows birthday parties take place.

As you said, it could be the dog has been classically conditioned. The dog's owner said the dog gets "upset" and "refuses" to say in the house. Maybe he didn't interpret the dog's behavior properly.
