Obviously 'MY' Black Brother did something right! He's Valedictorian of his class & he will go on to be a very successful young man contrary to the insignificant thoughts of society & it's stereotypes. I am proud & more importantly God is proud!!!

Where is this school located?

swelling with pride. sending this to my 13 year old son who needs encouragement and motivation to NOT throw in the towel!

1) I separated the words "any" and "one" to stress the fact that "any" was correct, rather than "no".
2) After speaking with Keenah81, I agreed to not further criticize the young man, as on balance, it's better to encourage academic achievement in our people in any and all forms, rather than not, even if it's not expressed or manifested in an optimal way.
So you can save your ammo. I hung up my guns on this issues a while ago.

Mr. Grammarian anyone is one word is it not?
-
;-} Im just saying. Not everyone is going to grow up to speak like James Earl Jones or Sydney Poitier(self-taught btw)

He has had a lot of adversity. I truly hope for his success because it's been almost two years for him.

I noticed people in general are bothered by African inflections on English, even if the grammar is perfect. In particular, where I'm from in California there is a lot of accent bias and you see this even among other Black people, assuming someone from Georgia is ignorant and they may have a PhD!

Quit hatin'. And yes, as a grammtically correct speaking Black Woman, I spelled 'hatin' incorrectly. We encourage our young ones that despite the stereotypes, despite the negativity that we receive because we are the descendants of what was considered a lesser people, despite those who trample and oppress us, criticize and deny us the rights that our ancestors fought, bled, and died for, they can succeed. One of our young ones succeeds and you criticize his SPEECH!? Chile please.

Wow!The first African American male to be the valedictorian of Booker T. Washington High school! YES! All the negative/derogatory comments--SHAME on you. He does not sound uneducated--it's just an ACCENT! Have you people never heard of dialect/cultural limitations regarding speech? As he advance in his career, his vernacular will change. If he wasn't receiving attention, you would complain. Now that he does, you still complain. Can you people just be happy for him? #19yroldBlackUndergradMSU
