If you watching death note only watch until L dies! After L dies the show wasn't nearly as good and eventually killed Light. Just save yourself from the pain and only watch until L dies.

If Light had lived he would have been confined to prison, most likely for the rest of his life. Ryuk would have been bored just waiting for Light to eventually die so he wrote his name into the Death Note.
