Always Enjoy Skips Vids Nothing like Steam & 844, Well she's the icing on the cake
-
The diesel engine behind 844 is used primarily for braking because electrical braking is more powerful and efficient than air-operated shoe brakes, by themselves. Electric braking is achieved by reversing the poles on the diesel engine's wheel motors, making them act as generators, which creates powerful drag and the resultant braking action. The electricity generated by the motors in generator mode is routed thorugh heavy electrical conduits to roof-mounted resistor units.

Uh, Skip is like the master of UP844 videos. :)
-
@originalgrump100 Its also there for dynamic brakes, since 844 obviously doesn't have them.
-
@originalgrump100 I thought preasure was put on the break lines to disengage breaks. Then if there was a disconnnect or something went wrong the breaks would set.
-
@AlcoholicSemenStain You have control of the fuel are is there an assistant or someone with you in there. The fireman used to be a sort of assistant when he wasn't acrually shoveling coal. What today?
-
