Samsung SyncMaster T240

The 24-inch Samsung SyncMaster T240HD is a HDTV disguised as a $499 monitor. The OSD menu design is taken directly from the menus used in Samsung's HDTVs. It has tons of connection options--all of which face toward the back, not down as they do with most monitors--including two HDMI ports and an ATSC/QAM tuner. And it comes with a remote control. The display has a low brightness, and its color reproduction in games proved to be lackluster, but it produced accurate flesh tones and sharp clarity in DVDs. It also reproduced text sharply, making it good for normal office use. With all its connections options, the TV tuner, and its great performance in movies the Samsung SyncMaster T240HD is a steal at $499. While it doesn't have quite the overall performance of the $689 Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP, its lower price, connection options, and features make up for that. The $482 HP w2408h True Color Widescreen is a little bit cheaper, but it skimps on video connections and features. For movie watchers, TV addicts, and those that simply want a large productivity display, we easily recommend the Samsung SyncMaster T240HD. Still, 24 inches is 24 inches, so if connection options aren't important to you, but price is, check out the $385 V7 d24w33 and the $399 BenQ v2400w. Both are very good displays for less than $400.

  • this guy is funny , brightness isnt good ? i had to put it down to half cuz it was killing my eyes , and the colours not good ? the colours are bright and sharp as a motherfucker , this guy clearly hasnt tried the options out at all , cuz this monitor is better then those dell ultra sharps , i saw them both together running gta 4 on the xbox 360 at a store , and the t240hd was clearly better , and the ultrasharp costs way more , double the price of the samsung here , what a nubhead that guy is !

  • It's hard to trust Cnet anymore with their reviews because they really tend to favor some brands over others despite user reviews stating the direct opposite of what they do. Perhaps all that advertising money has something to do with that.

  • Yeah, I have my Wii hooked up to it and running it in 480p (wish it ran in higher resolutions), and it does look great. Actually, it looks better on the T240HD than on my dad's HDTV.

  • You hook up cable, satellite, or an antenna to it. It works and looks great!

  • Hows this work as a tv?

  • Yeah I agree. I've got my brightness set on about 10. For two days I left it at its default (I think about 48) and wondered why my eyes felt like they were melting haha.

The guy is talking utter shite of the highest order.

  • Well, I'm Using this screen with my laptop through HDMI and with PS3 for 3 months or more, it's awesome , colors and brightness are very good....... The only thing i don't like no cover for the cables, but i like it......

  • Yeah, brightness and contrast is really good at home. I love my screen. You should watch my videos too ;)Also if you turn on the SRS TruSurround XT mode, the sound will be much more comfortable to listen to (T240HD). Sharpness is also very good.
