XR650R R4 start

Just took delivery my new bike, the legendary XR650R Beast of the Baja. Pretty much box standard at the moment, well apart from the Edelbrock carb, 250W three phase stator, and entire DC conversion.. ;0) Mastered the art of kick starting her with only minor leg injuries but It's still like kick starting a jumbo jet... only a bit louder! Bike's a 2005 model.

Nice bike. My BRP runs very hot immediately after start up.

Does this mean I need a new piston. ?

@TheBullterrierist Could be several things from lack of oil or coolant (check your levels) to running very lean, have you changed the carb or altered the jetting?

@11039078 THE XR is NOT made for truning sharp in the dirt. And has a tendicy to DIVE. The 450 is a Motocross bike with less RAKE to the front end and will corner better. I take my XR to the motocross track now and then in Arizona Just to keep my cornering muscle memory up to date. Then get on my Little CRF and it feels like a BMX bike. Then go out the next day and do 60mph half mile long powersides. THERES NO BIKE LIKE IT ON EARTH.

The first year the American team Honda did not use the XR was the first time they got beat at the baja 1000 in 16 years. By the way MOTOXFREAK thats why the manuals say wear propper safety gear. DUUHH!!!
