I think that if you can find the energy to refect on the matter you might come to find that it is in fact that the Chinese governement that causes hurt to its own people by its repression of free expression. It's certainly not the Dalai Lama. The Dalai Lama's needs for Tibet are really quite modest and his approach has always been one of fair minded and peaceful dialogue as a means to find a solution to a very difficult problem. I don't think he has a vindictive or cruel bone in his body.
