  • I really only have two rules. No processed carbs and I never eat anything that comes out of a box. Works wonders.

  • I grew up in the '50's watching "Leave It to Beaver" & my mother put three meals on the table everyday. We were never allowed to eat anywhere other than at the meal. If we didn't want to eat, we waited until the next meal & didn't come back to the frig to eat later. People eat all day long now. Sugar/starches raise Insulin levels like Gary Taubes points out in his book "Good Calories, Bad Calories". I learned so much for reading it.

  • wompeter1 As I said before the amount of carbs I take in doesn't seem to matter, some times I gain and some times I lose. There must be a third factor neither you nor I are aware of. I will continue to research it.

  • @TheDano1947 You have to determine what level of carb intake causes you to start gaining. If you want to lose weight steadily, start with fewer than 20 carbs a day, with 12-15 of those carbs coming only from leafy green vegetables. Gradually add more carbs until you either stop losing or start gaining. THAT'S truly low carb. Potatoes, rice, bread, pasta are all bad choices (even in half portions) if you want to go low carb--they spike insulin, which makes you hungrier.

  • I love the retarded logic that if you go low carb you will eat lots of fat. What your supposed to do is cut the bad carbs, (sugars, starches, white breads, pastas) Not all carbs!!! Eat the correct carbs(green leafy veggies, fruits) and you can have a better balance of fats and carbs. Its all about cutting out the wrong things. Taubes is correct. Its all about coming to terms with 40 years of really bad advice...It hurts to know we've been brainwashed. Move on.

  • wompeter1 And how would you define a low carb diet in the first place? I use half portions of carbs for each meal, some days I lose weight and some days I gain and some days I stabilize. Pasta or Rice or Bread or Potatoes, Mostly protein and greens.

  • @TheDano1947 If you didn't lose weight on a low-carb diet, you weren't eating low-carb. Or you decided to have "vacations" and eat high-carb foods, which disrupts your metabolism all over again.

  • @futoncat john holmes must have led a very healthy life!
