@pricofilipinaamerica The original dance was a local version of the Tari Lilin, a candle dance with origins in Sumatra. The Tari Lilin is performed today over the border in many areas of Malaysia and Indonesia.

It was hispanized/creolized in Mindoro and the Visayas after the colonization to become the present day Pandanggo sa ilaw in the Philippines :)

This is the best rendition I have seen in youtube of Pandango sa Ilaw. I am not sure if the men are professional dancers but they follow the tempo, unlike yong ibang rendition, nauuna sila sa music.
