Don Disney is a local, state, and nationally recognized leader and administrator in the field of health education, physical education, fitness, and wellness. Currently he is the National FitnessGram Program Director at the Cooper Institute. Previous to that he was Director of Health and Wellness for the El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) in El Paso Texas. During his tenure with the EPISD, he secured funding for the state mandated coordinated school health program, developed an infrastructure for leadership and accountability, and has successfully created a evidence based and data driven program. Under his leadership the EPISD has created an online high tech quality physical education program. Don has secured over nine million dollars in various grants/partnerships to support wellness and physical education initiatives for the district. Texas Governor Rick Perry honored the EPISD in 2010 for having the top School Health Advisory Council in the state of Texas. In April 2011 the EPISD was named a finalist in the Healthy Living Innovation Award sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Services. The EPISD participated in the first pilot program for Nutrigram in 2011 developed by The Cooper Institute. Mr. Disney received the Congressional Recognition Award from Sylvester Reyes for his leadership in health initiatives for the city of El Paso.
