Trinity Test Site 2006

This is my family vacation to the Trinity Test Site in New Mexico. It is where they blew the first atomic bomb, on July 16, 1945, at 0529.

I saw a sign which read, "Radioactive Material." Why would anybody go to a location where there is a sign posted warning of this? What did I miss?

That's the way it is with all atomic bombs, be it fission or fusion. When some of the fuel starts the chainreaction, the rest of of it get blown outwards. Thus, most of it gets undercritical before it takes part in the reaction.
