Resolution Offers Apology For Enslavement And Racial Segregation Of African-Americans

A bipartisan, bicameral resolution passed by the U.S. Senate today provides an apology for the enslavement and racial segregation of African-Americans. The measure comes as the nation celebrates Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery. It was sponsored by Senators Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Sam Brownback (R-KS) and in the U.S. House by Congressmen Cohen.

sum1 should tell our reps on capitol hill that actions speak louder than words. to make sure this apology has some weight & isnt just more empty words (for hundreds of years the constitution itself was empty rhetoric stating all men were created equal but in practice we know that to be false & dont get me started on jim crow-these were actual laws) congress should put their monies where their mouths are. put up or shut up. my ancestors made the ultimate sacrifice & their offspring should benefit

No we don't. People enslaved each other all the time. we should receive a thanks for actually ending the slave trade and for bringing them to prosperity, just like colonization gave you Asians the infrastructure you needed to launch your economies.

Actually I'm not Anglo-Saxon, I'm of Italian extraction. But I'm a proud White American nonetheless.
