I decided to see how Open Office's word processor would work in Windows 7, since I prefer Open Office over Microsoft Office. Windows 7 handles Open Office version 3 without any issues. However, JAWS will need some scripting in order to see the various buttons in dialog boxes. Menus work fine, though. I only demonstrate the one issue JAWS has which is navigating the spell checking & other dialog boxes.

  • I'm a jaws user, too, and I'm curious...did anyone ever come up with a solution to these issues?

  • @mpeveto100 I heard about something in regard to having...something about Java enabled.

  • u need to use the java access bridge and also u need to enable the accessibility features in the options.

  • @nightwatcher3344 I'll try to remember that. Thanks. :)

  • Oh dear god, I could not watch it. Its nice that you made this video and that there is a such a solution for when you can´t see the screen. But please god, you can manage 5 minutes without it, seriosly annoys.

  • Here's a solution. YOU try closing your eyes for a few hours and use the computer WITHOUT speech. Believe, you will be glad when you hear the words "JAWS for Windows is ready."

  • I am Not sure that I could listen to Jaws on any kind of a regular basis. THat synthesized voice. Is there another screen reader that is at no cost (using windows xp with Firefox as the web browser). So I know that SA to go won't work. Do you have Any other suggestions? Please advise. I like the video as much as every other one that I have listened to. You're vids are Great! Keep-em coming. :))

  • u need java access bridge and to enable accessibility in the options menu

  • @z0n3al4rm Mine is pretty good. 20/80 in my only seeing eye. Thanks, though .:)

  • Then I would not be using a computer. I would ping myself by turning JAWS on.
