Almost being an SWL since 13years, and today it was the firts time i have listened to Air Force One !
Air Force One was approaching LFST at 10h45, on 10h54 it was established on ILS05
It seems that it came from the south since it was passing over the village of Andlau.

Receive equipment was made of : Icom IC-706MKIIG with an antenna in the attic.

  • any enemy could monitor this then? and know where air force one is? thats a risk for sure.

  • @mikefan09

If womeone knows the approach procedure of a given airport he doesn't even have to listen to ATC to know the route the plane will follow....

  • The Icom is a bad ass radio dude.......

  • @kb5zcs

I am pretty happy with it except its bad modulation on FM...

  • Back in the 60's when I first began my SWL experience I picked up Air Force One a couple of times when it was in the middle of the Pacific. Of course that was an HF signal, not the VHF you were listening to here. I build myself an 80 foot long dipole, the most I could fit onto my family's property in the city and heard Radio Hanoi during the Tet Offensive. Some interesting listening! Now I'm in a condo and can't put up a decent antenna, so I'm missing SWL. KG6DHV.

  • @max2950 Aviation is carried on AM, not FM, for technical reasons. Aircraft speed would cause distortion on FM because of doppler effect...

  • @mikefan09 Air Force One my rear end. His wife preceeded him on a separate PRIVATE fight. Enjoy your socialism...

  • @mikefan09 Not a problem for Air Force One, they'll see you coming before you do.

  • @urbex2007 Also what is you call sign?

  • @urbex2007 Maybe you should research "FM's capture effect" and why Air Traffic does not use FM..

And FM has worse interference with poor signal strength differently from AM. With AM, the signal just fades away until it is lost in the noise. FM, the sound cuts out more and more with declining signal strength, but the strength of modulation does not change.

And yes God know how I got my license. He has blessed me with the knowledge and the career that allows me to use this knowledge. Thanks!

  • @DonaldOhse2 You will only hear the strongest signal no matter what MODE is used!

God knows how you got an amateur licence when you don't know anything about RF,

  • @max2950 @kb5zcs Air traffic in AM. Also you will note that it states AM in the Radio at the top of the screen on the radio.. Air Traffic in in AM so that if two people try to talk at the same time it can still be heard. In FM it is very hard to understand if one keys over someone else.... 73 W5DRO

  • Oh, there it is! But why dont you use it?

  • Dont you have SQL?
