Very good series John and well said. There is a lot to be said for knowing your limits, being prepared and accepting the situation when/if it does happen. Knowing your limits is a big one. Sometimes, especially with us guys, trying to be the macho dude gets us into trouble we did not have to experience.

Another great, thought-provoking video. I haven't seen a philosophical post like this before and I think you've made the point well: The most important piece of trail gear is what's in your head. Thanks.

Thanks for talking about survival without sounding like a crazy person. That being said everyone should make a small survival kit and take it with them even on day hikes (be prepared)!

Thanks for logging this series into your collection - it will be referenced many times.
It's great that you bring these very important issues to the fore front. It is true how your mental state depicts on whether you live or die, it is the very thing that was portrayed in the Movie "The Edge". I have battled with Manic Depression my whole life, however, if it came to true Survival, I am confident that I would think at my best. Thanks for posting this very critical info as it just may be the very thing that will help somebody someday.

@townkevin59 Thanks for the great feedback my friend. I couldn't agree with you more. I think we all get a little too caught up in the "survival show" stuff... it's alot more exciting than talking about the mental aspect, which ironically is what matters the most. I also agree with you that those of us who have faced adversity in our own lives have great experience that can be drawn upon when faced with a "typical" survival situation. Take care...

I applaud your putting this up for all of us and myself. I haven't addressed all these items but I certainly will now. Concentrating on knowledge, gear, and being fit are one side of it and with experience, as you said, you gain confidence and skills. But I need to look and think about ALL the aspectcs you mentioned and direct them to myself in a very personal way. I think these two videos are the best advice I've ever seen on survival, here on YouTube. Thanks for posting. Much appreciated.

@ridebks It definitely is! Pretty difficult to carry on a serious conversation with just myself and that silly camera! I swear my IQ drops by 40 points the second I hit the record button! lol.
