Here's a model at Nara Visitor Center in Nara Park that shows you how Seismic Isolation Devices found under tall buildings in earthquake-prone Japan work to prevent a building from collapsing in an earthquake.
The device probably prevented a lot of buildings from collapsing during the 2011 Sendai Earthquake on 11 March 2011, thus saving even more lives from being lost.
As you watch the video, please think about the people of Japan who've gone through one of the worst earthquakes in human history. Also ask yourself how you could contribute to the development of Science and Engineering in your country to reduce deaths in future natural disasters.

Yes, next door were always having loud parties, too bad when the earthquake happened, they-all couldn't feel it in there; the extra vibration was too much for the building and it passed-out flat on the floor.
