Boomerangs are used by native Australians or Aboriginal people to hunt. Some are designed to return to the thrower - called returning boomerangs.
Other types are non-returning, such as the Anangu of South Australia's kaili... Modern boomerangs are used in sports.

Traditionally they are flat curved pieces of wood - modern boomerangs can be made of material ranging from wood to bakelite!

Some Aboriginal people call it karli, kylie or kaili.

Here's an array of traditional and modern boomerangs. Enjoy!

  • It is very hard to throw a boomerang! I've tried many times and never really perfected the art of getting it to return. I guess I need more practice!
