Tabla Master Pradip Ghosh - Disciple of Pt. Kumar Bose, Benaras Gharana - Tabla Lesson - Ghazal Theka (8 Beat Cycle used for Ghazals, a type of devotional or 'light-classical' music)
NOTE: The astounding bass in these (and other) tabla videos from the bayan (left hand drum) cannot be reproduced by laptop speakers, or built-in monitor speakers. Much of the beauty and soul of tabla will not be heard. Use of decent external speakers or simply listening through headphones is HIGHLY recommended.
Pradip is a renowned Tabla player and has accompanied many artists and musicians of national repute.
Pradip is a disciple of Pandit Kumar Bose and has a degree of Sangeet Prabhakar (wh ich is similar to having a doctorate degree) in tabla. Pradipji also teaches tabla and has students spread out throughout the world.
Pradipji has learned material from all gharanas of tabla playing, but specializes in the Benaras Gharana, for which style his Guru is generally recognized as being one of the foremost living authorities. This style is characterized by including many 'pakhawaj bols', or sounds from the barell-drum precursor to the tabla. These 'bols' (or sounds / drum words) include very powerful strokes, a 'full-hand tirakita', and open hand slaps, all at tremendously high speeds. His repertoire also include a full range of more subtle and delicate techniques from this and other gharanas.
Amazing. Best rhythm on the planet. Serene and soothing.
