KMB MCW Metrobus 2-axle ( M )

During 1983 to 1985, the Kowloon Motor Bus acquired totally 80 MCW Metrobus 2-axle buses which is modeled as DR102. KMB later fleeted them as M1 - M80. In that period, the passenger capacity allowance was changing from batch to batch. The difference between them is just on the standees. They are all originally installed with Gardner 6LXB engine and Voith DIWA-851 fully automatic gearbox. However, there are three Metrobus, the M58 - M60, are specially fitted with Cummins LT10 engine with maximum power output of 245bhp.

As the M58 - M60 had a good performance, later in the last batch of the Metrobus 2-axle, KMB introduced 8 Metrobus with fleet number M81 - M88. These buses fitted with Cummins LT10A engine with can perform 280bhp horse power. The transmission also changed to Voith DIWA 864.4G fully automatic gearbox. These buses were then put into the services of route .



51 路線提供錦田、八鄉、荃錦公路(石崗、大帽山、川龍、朗逸峰、光板田村)往來港鐵荃灣站及荃灣市中心的巴士路線,可謂一條不斷縮減服務的路線,原名為1961年6月24日­配合荃錦公路開放為公用道路(有關歷史詳見本線資料底部)而試辦的 26,往來佐敦道碼頭及元朗,由於反應良好,1961年12月1日起正式成為永久路線,1973年7月16日九巴重組路線編號改稱 51,並縮短至大角咀碼頭。

地鐵荃灣線(現稱港鐵荃灣線)於1982年5月16日全線通車,本路線再縮短為元朗(東)至荃灣地鐵站(現稱荃灣鐵路站),並改稱 51M,1983年屯門公路全線通車(三線出、三線入),進一步改善元朗、屯門往來市區的交通,當時元朗已有 50M(元朗(東)往來葵芳地鐵站,已取消) 及 68M (元朗(西)往來荃灣地鐵站)往返荃灣,而 51M 接載乘客由元朗往荃灣的意義相對較小,1983年4月17日再縮短至錦田,不經坳頭及高埔村,往荃灣方向並改經錦上路,1984年12月16日起遷往荃灣碼頭,改經大河道­天橋往來,編號改回 51,2000年3月19日配合如心廣場巴士總站啟用而遷往。

本路線長久以來為錦田主要對外路線,更需於1992年8月10日增闢輔助線 51P 由石崗泳池往荃灣,以應付繁忙時間的客量。當大欖隧道即將通車時,在1996年屯門及元朗區議會會議紀錄中,計劃本路線於大欖隧道通車後,改為往來上村及荃灣碼頭,不經荃­錦公路並改行大欖隧道,來回經錦上路,但這樣荃錦公路沿途將沒有公共交通服務,唯有把乘客分流解決問題,1998年10月19日起開辦 251M,本路線隨即大幅削班,並改為全空調服務,地位慘遭滑鐵盧,51P 更停止服務。雖然如此,由於本路線收費比起 251M 便宜,加上假日有不少往來大帽山郊野公園郊遊的市民,仍有一定的乘客支持。
