@stktrd All the contrary; due to her beauty and her fantastic singing, she was selling out all her shows extremely easily. When all the opera houses (starting with the MET) sacked her, they renounced an extremely secure source of revenue. Her attitude must have gotten to a point where it could not be supported anymore for the Met to take such an extreme action, especially when regarding the consequences.

Isn't this "Par le Rang et par l'Opulence"? and not "Salut à la France"? "Salut à la France" is a different one. Thanks for posting this, though. This might be my favorite interpretation of it. It's so pretty! : )
I don't think Miss Battle's attitude was unfounded. She's a perfectionist, as evidenced by her work. She wasn't taken seriously, in part because of her color, but mainly because of her physical beauty. Anyone that beautiful was thought not to have true talent. Lot's of jealousy. Ms Battle's beauty of voice matches her physical beauty....at least. May God continue to bless her.
