"Meet Treerose, a cockatiel who sings the infamous piccolo solo from Tchaikovsky's 4th symphony. He learned it after his owner, my daughter, had been practicing the solo for a youth orchestra tour.

This is the original Tchaikovsky cockatiel video from my flute web site, www.flutesonline.com. In the days before Youtube.com was available, this got passed around via email in the classical flute world (not by us). My daughter ended up receiving the email herself, which is how we found out that it had become such a hit.

Please note, the video quality is due to the fact that it's about ten years old."

  • wait, the bird's singing that or someone is playing in the background?

  • The bird is singing that!

  • We could use that bird in our orchestra.

  • Just an update, Treerose (the cockatiel in the above video) is 13 years old and doing well. He retired the Tchaikovsky several years ago, but he still listens to lots of music and sings along. He enjoys piccolo music and other cockatiel videos on YouTube in particular! (And for the record, he now resides in a sprawling mansion consisting of a double set of flight cages, not the tiny little one above.)
