General Motors celebrated its centennial anniversary by unveiling the production version of its Chevy Volt, a plug-in electric vehicle set to launch in 2010. During its 100th anniversary celebrations, GM execs focused on future plans rather than the companys past. Throughout the next few decades, GM CEO Rick Wagoner says the company plans to find new alternative fuels that will help decrease dependency on oil.

  • this car sucks i can build my own electric car better

  • I wonder if maybe its top speed over the long haul is 40 miles a day.

  • boy, that car looks like its top speed is 70 mph it looks very slow for a hybrid but you cant blame them i still like the car myself

  • not only that its never been proven to work

i would not gamble $45K on a unproven technology from GM

    remember GMs firsts attempts?

    small car= chevy chevette

    diesel cars=stinky oldsmobiles

    electric cars=crushed ev-1

  • Toyota lost $27 billion last year more than any car company but you will never hear about the billions they are getting from the Japanese government not loans.

They are having trouble just like all car companies in fact Toyota is having the most trouble, buying back a whole line of trucks with frames that are rusting out after just 7 years. The Prius does not make a profit for Toyota thats why after 15 years of making them hybrids only make up a couple percent of the cars Toyota sells.

  • How bias are you?.. The guy i replied to said, "this technology has never been produced"(false), and then said "Use your brain before you post, ok??" That's the only reason I said what I said. It was an ignorant comment that rested on the surface of the problem. Dig a little deeper before you insult someone.

By the way who appointed you "rlbrannon2's emotional body gaurd"?

  • What's your problem? Who appointed you chief "GM Basher".

The guy just posted an opinion, he wasn't giving you an order.

  • Die.. please.. you want to talk about using your brain? Then use yours! Electric cars have been out since 1996.. and they had better range and speed than this piece of shit.. so do your own research first bud.. before you go making stupid comments like that

  • then why can gm produce an escalade hybrid, tahoe hybrid, silverado hybrid, within 3 years but they cant develop and actual hybrid car for someone who commutes 50-80 miles per day, gee kind of like a prius, toyota seems to be doing just fine, and i guarantee if you drive by a toyota dealership you wont see a prius cuz it has already been sold to someone.

    Learn how automobiles are developed.

Learn how long it takes to create the hardware and the software to run cars like the Volt.

Learn how long it takes to develop the engines, the batteries and how long they take to be tweaked.

If everything was so easy maybe you would have fabricated and electric car or a fighter jet.
