Short video demonstrating the stages of creating a random world. After creating a random fractal height-map, temperature bands are generated, wind and rain is simulated (including realistic "rain shadows" caused by mountains) and rivers flow.

  • @theblackside1000 You would want 3D Simplex Noise. Obviously this vastly increases the memory requirements over 2D data.

  • @jarblewarble Nope! In Minecraft 1.8 the Terrain Generation is based also on Fractals! (And Biome)
