Small Fish Tank

A short video of my small aquarium because aquariums are all about motion.

Stocked with:
3x White Clouds
2x Black Neon Tetras
2x Red Tuxedo Guppies
1x Medium Pleco (4")
1x Bamboo Shrimp

I go with 1 inch of fish per gallon of water when stocking, so this 20 gallon is pretty close to full with 18" of fish.

But I'm going to monitor the chemistry to see if maybe I can add some more because I would really like a trio of Harlequin Rasboras. I think I can overload it a little because I do a 15% water change every week, and keep the lights dim to inhibit algea growth.

The song is a bridge from "Forty Days" by Streetlight Manifesto. Just something to listen to while watching the fishies.

is $150 (Canadian) a good buy for a 20 gallon starter kit?

it depends on what it includes. You'll need the following:

- The aquarium

- Light and Hood

- Filter

- Heater (Get a Marineland Visi-therm)

- Enough gravel to fill to 4-6cm. (You can get away with pea gravel from the hardware store, just wash it VERY thoroughly before use. It's more work but can save you $20 for an aquarium that size!!).

- Decorations

- Chemicals (a dechlorinator and bacteria supplement)

Got to the store and add it up, see what's cheaper.

@netweit3 true enough. A fish that's twice as large would make 3 times as much waste (because waste production is directly proportional to volume, not size)...but we're not curing cancer here and a rule of thumb and some common sense is good enough.
