cherijoy, those "wealthy chabad sponsors" are glad to help out, even if it means supporting the man who comes once a year.

That really only applies to Jews in Hawaii or Alaska. It's past sundown everywhere else.

alhasela, then please explain how, on a very persistent basis, these Chabad rabbis are able to move themselves and their families into communities throughout the world with no visible means of support?

cherlubavitch, there is no synagogue I know of that does not make accommodation for people who cannot afford to attend services.

cherijoy1, what about if someone cant afford it? they shouldent go pray? please explain urself.

When you're initially centrally funded like Chabad and then only prey on a few wealthy prospects, it's easy to provide High Holiday seats. A real synagogue relies on membership fees to do thing such as, oh, pay a rabbi's salary. Those who decide they're Jewish once a year and entitled to unseat members who have been paying all year to keep a synagogue running present a real dilemma. Another alternative for those wanting a "seat" is to join a normal, self-funded community - a synagogue.
