  • @pivotboy63 yes dogs R smarter than U give them credit 4!! Relax it's just a joke!!

  • @pivotboy63 u need power to firdge/freezer or it defrosts n then smells

  • @pivotboy63 I wasn't home once when the power went out and I ended up with a few inches of water in the basement and a house that was headed toward "pipes froze and burst" temperatures. Having the sump pump and the furnace work when you're not home is a good thing.

  • if im not there, why does my house need power? does my dog want to watch tv or something?

  • @erod1944

No . They only power the house if the main power utility line is dead.

  • Well this woman is clearly wrong in one area. Standby generators are no different than portables. You want to power your whole house with a portable? A transfer switch or Interlock kit takes care of that no problem. The lower end Generac costs about $1700 and is 7KW. My portable Ridgid is 6800KW and only cost me $900.

Sure, having it start and stop on it's own is great. But I can take my portable generator with me anywhere it is needed. Standbys aren't going anywhere! Pros and cons of both.

  • Do these units actually pick up the load on their weekly exercise run?

  • A portable generator can only run things directly plugged into it? Not necessarily, you can install a manual transfer switch or use a circuit breaker tie-in with mains interlock to run things through your house's wiring. Of course most portable gennys don't have the power to run everything in your house at once, so you have to turn off & unplug all unwanted items before starting it, and these should still be installed or inspected by an electrician. Also you have to start them manually too.

  • I wouldn't want to be left in the dark without one of these units.

  • @Igotyourback4power Most security systems have a direct current (DC) backup. Although most of the batteries only last for up to 6 hours.
