Britpop is still alive with a new generation!
Check out Careful What You Wish For by Phoebe Peek - she's only 13 and a British singer songwriter...bloody awesome!

Too bad these guys never made it in States. Mavers and Power are a fab songwriting team. Most people in the U.S. who know the song from Parent Trap, Gilmore Girls or Sixpence None the Richer have no clue about The La's.
A shame, really.

Not really. The guitarist of the band denied that it was about Heroin in the book "In Search of the La's: A Secret Liverpool"

But yes, it does have some drug connotations, but it appears that they are unintentional. I believe the evidence. Some people who look at the lyrics say it's about heroin, but someone in the band says otherwise. I trust the guy in the band.

"Pulsing through my veins" and "She calls my name" are key lines to the heroin theory. But this is a great song regardless, I listened to it multiple times a day for like 6 months, haha.
