Theo III - part1.wmv

This is a short movie (part 1) of Theo III, a biologically inspired robot, which I designed and built for my PhD in Computational Neuroscience at King's College London. The project investigated the hypothesis that a robot designed on biological learning principles would develop emergent cognition when coupled with the environment in a mutual feedback relationship. Theo is one of the only robots in the world that learns its behaviour entirely via interaction, using an artificial neural net, and uses this learning to demonstrate recognition and discrimination. All electronics, mechanics and software was hand-crafted from scratch, over 6 years.
