  • One more comment on raising taxes in a boom...

Raising taxes on the upper incomes will be needed to run surpluses but also to finance the social programs many of us would like to see and to possibly serve as a damper on inequality which is at an 80-year high. Of course some of the inequality problem will have to be dealt with via the distribution of pay, which may require stronger private-sector unions and better de-facto limits on CEO compensation.

  • Hmmm...I wonder if there is a way to legislate "cyclical Paygo," where there is an automatic plan that kicks in a higher tax rate when the economy begins to grow past its natural rate?
