I know your comment is old, but GSP tails are bobbed because their natural, whip-like tails easily break and bleed and cause the dog a lot of misery. Anyone that has owned a GSP knows how much that tail is always ALWAYS moving and wagging. The tail is bobbed for the dog's sake, not for appearance.

My GSWP has a spot on his butt that looks just like that. Wasn't that big when he was a puppy.
