The message of the Bible is that people are not cast into the eternal lake of fire because they don't understand the law or even if they break the Law. The message of the Bible is that people are cast into the Lake of Fire because they reject the Message of Jesus, His Atonement for their sins, they reject His Redemption. They refuse to accept His gift of forgiveness. Indeed many are offended by the offer and think it is foolishness, some even declare it evil.

@jmlidea Let's put it this way...we didn't create ourselves, God created us. So, we don't have any right to question God's laws. God's Holy nature was around well before He created us. So, to be in His presence we have to be pure and sin free, which is impossible for us alone to do. In HIS mercy, and HIS alone, because He loves us He provided a way through His Son to be with Him. But despite the gift of God, many people with reject Him. It's MAN that reject's God.

What scares me most is the flip-flop idea that God loves me now, but one day I could be sentenced to a punishment of an eternity in fire, simply because I don't understand God's laws.

That's like holding a red hot iron to an infant's skin for the rest of his life simply because he looked at his mother's breast with yearning in his eyes.

The scariest word in the bible is FEW. Look it up.
