FLORIDA ON THE LINE
with Host Margie Menzel
After the tragic death of seven-year-old Gabriel Myers in April, the Department of Children and Families began a review of children in state custody taking psychotropic drugs. In more than 16 percent of cases where children were given these drugs, DCF lacked the legal consent of a guardian or judge. Fifteen percent of Florida foster children are on one or more such drugs. Our guests include Sen. Ronda Storms, chair of the Senate Committee on Children, Families and Elder Affairs; Dr. Toni Appel, an attorney and neuropsychologist; and children's advocate Karen Gievers, also an attorney. A member of DCF's Gabriel Myers Task Force will also appear.
OUR NIGHTMARE BEGAN WHEN WE MADE ONE CALL TO FLORIDA DCF Hotline and the West Palm Beach DCF CHILD ABUSE investigator started a relationship with the abuser of our sons. SHE WAS FOOLED BY HIM AND LIED IN PALM BEACH FAMILY COURT. We have started a support group in Palm Beach county called Survivors of Sociopaths on meetup.com for women who have been abused and then revictimized when DCF did a shoddy investigation
