The end of the video iswhere you can see waves smashing over the LA Harbor breakwater.

Filmed at Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro, CA during the strongest of the few storms that came in back to back. I tried to go to the Breakwater (at the end of this beach) but the coastguard closed the entrace where the cones were.

You can see the staff parking lot turn into a river. The grassy areas are covered water. The side of the bathhouse facing the beach was totally submerged by at least a foot. If it weren't for that bank of trees the waves would have reached the doors for sure. You will also notice at 0:42 the storm drain, within 3 days of rain, created a little creek from erosion.

I did get a change to film the breakwater from a lookout point on Gaffey street. The water really reaches about 50-60 feet high when the waves smash upwards.

  • We southern Californians wear sandals in the rain ...

  • In Oregon we call that rain. :) Cloudburst maybe. Not flash flood. They are very fast and .destructive
