Triops tend to reach a state of equilibrium pretty quickly. They'll kill off excess "Soldiers" by outcompeting them or eating them until there's enough food and oxygen for everyone.

I never ran into the problem of them eating eachother thankfully. I had 6 grow to maturity and everything worked out fine, 5 of them died on their own leaving just George and then he laid eggs by himself and then died. It was pretty cool.
