I attended Bowling Green State University in Ohio for two years and had the great opportunity to work with its varsity baseball program as the team's video coordinator. I was responsible for shooting and indexing each player's innings at bat and on the mound throughout the season, so this job (along with a photo position with the student newspaper and work study at the TV station) kept me busy during the spring semester.
Because I did not receive payment or academic credit for my work with the team, I often had to give preference to tests and classes over their road trips. I did, however, make several trips in the 2009 season and made nearly every home game during my freshman and sophomore years. Thus, I captured plenty of footage for each player to be able to compile a season highlight video after the most recent season that would be distributed to players, coaches and parents this summer. The music for this 9-minute video was licensed from a friend of mine, Alex Pauken, who produces music in Northwest Ohio.
This is the final product of my experience with the team. I have produced highlight videos for various sports teams in the past, but enjoyed working on this one the most since I spent so much time working with the Falcons. Most of the footage was shot with a Canon Powershot S2IS, though some was taken with a Panasonic HVX200. The stills were made with a Canon Rebel XTI. All of this was cut together with Sony Vegas 7.
Some of my favorite shots from this piece actually come away from the games, whether it was trailing the guys as they got off the bus at Notre Dame, shooting candid stills on the field during warm-ups or rising at 5 a.m. during my last weekend at BG to shoot a time lapse of the sunrise over Warren Steller Field.
