iShoe intends to solve the problem of falls and injury leading to death in the elderly resulting from poor balance. Our first product is dedicated transform how poor balance is diagnosed today.

iShoe, Inc. is developing technology spun out from NASA originally used to monitor astronauts' balance upon return from space flight. We have identified a need in the elderly consumer market for balanc emonitoring to prevent falls and injury. Falls due to poor balance are a major cause of death in the elderly, resulting in acute care expenses of over $20B or over $80K/incident.

Just as vision and hearing deteriorates with age, balance deteriorates due to a multitude of changes in the body. Yet currently no single metric of simple diagnostic device exists to quantify balance capability or to index fall risk, especially for the purpose of consumer home use and monitoring.

Our inital product will take the form of a simple, home-use bathroom scale to output weight, body mass indications, and balance score to indicate fall risk. Audio announcement of hte scores after a brief standing measurement, along with large size digital display, and no physical inputs required from the user will contribute ot the appeal of this scale. This design thereby eliminates the need for the user to ever bend toward the floor. Additional features may include tracking output metrics over time, educational information and exercise suggestions tailored to individual score results.
