@jkhalifax It's own language tends to be either mandarin or the min languages, which come from China. The cultural is predominantly Chinese in Taiwan.
I won't comment on the political situation except that Chinese people should always be together - although it can be spirit and not just politically...
There are countless online articles referring to China's bullying of nation of Taiwan. I invite anyone who wants to know more to simply Google search "China...Taiwan...missles" and see what you find.
I don't know much about the politicial parties in Taiwan but if You don't want to visit China, fine, don't talk any crap about it, I have never been to Taiwan but you don't see me badmouthing Taiwan without knowing anything.
I would never visit China because I really like Taiwan a lot. So much in fact that I would wear my "I Love Taiwan" t-shirt wherever I went. This would probably see me immediately kicked out of the country if not arrested outright.
Look, I don't pretend to know it all, but in my mind China is an arrogant country...most powerful countries are arrogant (US, England, Russia, Israel, etc). China has no real claim to Taiwan...Taiwan has its own language, currency, passport, democracy, military, etc
I'm not gonna get into a debate on whether or not China bullies Taiwan. I'll admit that China hasn't bothered Taiwan as of late, but that's simply because the current president doesn't want to ruffle any feathers. There are in fact 2 extremely distinct political parties in taiwan...one seeks to pander to whatever China wants, the other seeks independance and recognition as a sovereign state. And to answer your question...no, I haven't been to China. The reason?...cont'd above or below
No respect for Democracy you say? You think Taiwan has been a Democracy ever since Chiang retreated to Taiwan? The truth is, Taiwan has been under 1-party rule for 40 years under Chiang Kai Shek and his son, but it modernised rapidly thanks to it's Authoritarian regime, now Taiwan has high-quality manufacturing, is politicially stable etc. all thanks to a regime that doesn't respect so called "Democracy". Your proud to live in Taiwan, then don't insult a country where you have never been to.
You suggest people to visit Taiwan while you talk big BS about China, I can ask this to you: Have you been to China? If you don't, then you don't have the right to BS about a country you have never been to. Yes, there are Chinese manufacturing is substandard but that's normal in a manufacturing economy and "bullying" other countries is not the policy of the Chinese governement.
I still feel that Taiwan is a unique sovereign country, and that it has nurtured a democratic system its people can be proud of. I wouldn't say the same for China...the fact that one is free loving and democratic, and the other is communist and doesn't give a shit about basic human rights and freedoms, would lead me to believe that cultural differences exist.
I'm not sure what your precise views are on the subject, but I'll stick to mine and you yours...no harm done.

China's governement is far from communist and it's surely not arrogant, it has brought alot of improvements to China.
