Taxi ride outside of Rome leaving the San Callisto Catacombs, one of the coolest (literally) places in Italy in July. At one point the catacombs had up to 500,000 people buried underground in the walls of halls that make a most impressive maze (4 levels deep) throughout 15 acres. A number of the tombs have been raided over the years and the stories told to us by the guide (a priest) were just as chilling as the temperature in the halls (approx. 60 degrees or so). A must see. Sorry, cameras were not allowed or I'd have some video for you.
